Group Teaching Never Sounded So Good

In thousands of music learning systems across the county, group instruction has proven to be an exceptionally practical and productive method for teaching music.  The heart of our group learning systems is the Korg Group Education Controller 3, or GEC3.  Based on our extensive work with teachers over the last 10 years, the GEC3 has evolved into a stereo, fully-digital, flexible and cost-effective audio routing system.  Its performance is unmatched by any other available group learning system.

Suitable for any teaching level and any combination of electronic instruments, synthesizers, guitars, computer sound cards, etc.) the GEC3 allows teachers to interact with as many as 32 different student stations and up to 64 students, since each student station can accommodate two students!

Multiple Modes Mean Flexibility
There are three main modes of the GEC3 operation.  Each of these can be selected from buttons to the right of the touch screen interface.  They include:

  • Lecture Mode: This mode is used to present material in a lecture format.  All students hear the teacher’s microphone and instrument as well as their own instruments.
  • Practice Mode: This mode is used if the students are working independently.  Each student hears only their own instrument.  The teacher has the option of “eavesdropping” on the student and initiating 2-way communication with the student.
  • Group Mode: This mode is used when students are working together in group (two or more student workstation in any conceivable order).  Each student in a group can hear his or her own instrument as well as the instruments/microphone of the other members of their group.

Packed with Easy-to-Use, Intelligent Features

  • Full digital design throughout, featuring digital transfer of audio from each student station to the GEC3 unit, S/PDIF output for digital recording of any workstation in the system, and conventional analog inputs and outputs.
  • Large, intuitive 240 x 320 touch screen user interface featuring each to navigate menus.
  • Customized settings for up to 16 teachers.
  • Each teacher can configure 8 classes and display student names for each class.
  • Split function that allows 2 students to independently work on the same MIDI keyboard.
  • SmartMedia cards allow storage and back-up of teacher and class information.

Clear Connections

The GEC3 system has two major components, the GEC3 (Teacher Unit) and the Student Interface Units (SI Units).  The SI Units are each connected to audio sources like MIDI keyboards, guitars, sound modules, and computer sound cards.  The SI Units also have jacks for 2 student headsets (stereo headphones with microphones).  All of these student audio sources are combined in the SI Unit, digitized and sent to the GEC3 Teacher Unit.  These connections allow the students to musically interact with one another and the teacher in nearly any imaginable way.

The GEC3 Teacher Unit features a wide variety of digital and analog inputs and outputs.  An Expansion Unit (GEC3EXP) may be added on to the system to provide support for up to thirty two student interface units.
